Mou Nido to…

Artist: BENI
Release Date: December 10, 2008
Label: Universal Records
Personal Rating: 4/5

1. Mou Nido to…
3. Mou Nido to… (Instrumental)
4. STAY (Instrumental)

On a Personal Note: I was actualyl planning to review BENI releases after I finished Ayu’s reviews but it doesn’t seem like I’ll finish them anytime soon so might as well start now! I’m only going to review the releases after Beni Ashiro moved to Universal Records.

Mou Nido to… is like a Beni version of Dozhi-T’s Mou Ichido but better. Instead of the original laid back ballad atmosphere there seems to be more of a guitar and piano feel. I can’t really compare her vocals to her older releases since I began listening to Beni from this single onwards but I have read that she has improved!

Next up is STAY which seemed more agressive than the A-side. It’s quite more R&B with a memorable arrangement and I feel that this is probably the song that got me into Beni. I’ve heard that her music under Universal Records is much better from when she was under the Avex label.

Release Date: May 12, 2010
Label: Sony Music Japan
Personal Rating: 4/5

2. L.I.P.S.
3. sad to say [BUZZER BEATS Remix]

On a Personal note: I’ve just decided to get off my lazy butt and force myself to write a review today! The gap since the last post seems to have been a really long time ago! Well… not really.

My reaction when I first listened to DREAMIN’ was “finally! An effing ballad!” Jasmine’s vocals seemed to have really reached out to me this time around. Before, her singing would just be addictive and stuck in my head for days but with Dreamin’ I’m just really impressed. Sure it’s a sudden change but at least she’s not like alan who stuck with ballad A-sides throughout her first era.

Now L.I.P.S. was what was totally unexpected after listening to the calm and soothing Dreamin’. L.i.p.s. still takes on the face of her older music but it still doesn’t hold a candle next to This is not a game mainly because the energy of the arrangement and the vocals were just “there.”

There isn’t much of a difference in terms of arrangement in the sad to say (BUZZER BEATS Remix) compared to the orignal since the only element that was added were just extra beats. This is pretty much just the orignal song but with extra beats.

I’m so busy! I don’t even have time to log into wordpress anymore! This is really horrible!!! So… I just wanted to let you know that I haven’t forgotten about this blog yet by giving you a decently long list of reasons:

– I got Pokemon Soul Silver for my birthday two weeks ago: Which is a dead giveaway that I’m totally hooked!
– I also got the new Zelda game for DS!!! I’ve received too many games for my birthday so it’s getting difficult to switch around between games
– Presentation projects: I’ve had at least two projects to finish up this week!
– Prom: seems really stressful
– Term paper: They were due last week but they sucked up a whole lot of energy
– Ap testing: why did they have to be on the same week as my term paper?
– Birthdays!: I had to celebrate at least three birthdays during the past two weeks
– Wedding: Yes, a grand wedding
– Trip planning: I think I already wrote that I’m going on a trip during the first two weeks of June…
– Lab papers: Okay, these take forever
– New blog: I started a short story blog on blogspot last week for one of my english teachers. (Boy, she like my stories for some reason) I won’t post the link because I’m so embarassed!
– Trailers: My brother’s still going to buy me FF XIII as a (hella) belated birthday present so I’ve been speding my freetime reading reviews and watching trailers on you tube because I’m so excited!!!!

Can’t you believe it!? I did so much in one month! (I actually feel proud of this) Finals are coming up in two weeks which also means that the last day of school is in two weeks!!!! I’ll probably post reviews this weekend but the chance might be slim… (Prom, hw, projects, etc.)

Artist: misono
Release Date: July 12, 2006
Label: Avex Trax
Personal Rating: 3.5/5

1. Speedrive
2. Ari to Kirigirisu ~10 years later~
3. Speedrive (Instrumental)
4. Ari to Kirigirisu ~10 years later~ (Instrumental)

Apparently, both of misono’s releases were give relatively average reviews but after listening to Speedrive, I begin to appreciate the older releases more. For the most part, the song is quite messy and laid back. But I find it quite funky when I hear bits of the arrangement attempting to imitate the screeching of a skidding wheels. While misono’s vocals have shown a little improvement since the last release, this doesn’t seem to be the song to use it to its potential.

Ari to Kirigirisu ~10 years later~ sounded a bit generic at first but then progresses into stronger vocals and more instruments. The pace of the song does seem faster and misono does continue to keep up with her stronger vocals. But there was some part in the middle when her vocals get cut off or something… Porbably one of her better B-sides.

I was just scanning through my older posts and found my very first post. I remember writing about my plans and how I chose to review J-pop music. This post was written about a year and a half ago so my writing wasn’t all that good. I had a fun time remembering my times with blogspot and I thought that it would be interesting enough to feature it in this post =)

View it HERE!

ha ha. I knew I said I would be busy but I’m really in the mood to procrastinate 😀

Kimi ga Iru Kara

Artist: Sayuri Sugawara
Release Date: December 2, 2009
Label: For Life Music
Personal Rating: 4.5/5

1. Kimi ga Iru Kara
2. Eternal Love
3. Christmas again
4. Kimi ga Iru Kara (Instrumental)
5. Eternal Love (Instrumental)
6. Christmas Again (Instrumental)

Anyone who’s bought Final Fantasy XIII whether you beat the game or not, must have heard of it’s Japanese ending, Kimi ga Iru Kara! (I’m just going to say it right here and now that the English song for the game wasn’t that bad) Anyways, the song – which is a ballad – does seem to sound a bit generic at first but once you get around a minute through the song, intensity begins to build up and Sayuri’s groundbreaking vocals begins to sing with a strong force behind it. Sure it’s has a whopping total of six minutes in length, the song was able to “move” me in a way because the mood really suited the ending of the game. (Like “Kiss me Goodbye” from FFXII) If I were to rank the FF songs, I would say that this is probably the best but it took much longer for the song to grow on me compared to Kiss me Goodbye.

Eternal Love also happens to be an insert song from the same game. (Yay!) Compared to the ballad ending song, this is more of a laid back pop. There are times when Sayuri sings well with high pitched vocals and the melody is rather refreshing. The flow of the vocals and the arrangement also made the song easy to listen to. Man, I really liked this song. Too bad it was totally shortened during the Japanese game. (And was completely substituted by a vocal version of Serah’s theme!)

Christmas again turns out to sound a bit generic in terms of the acoustic guitar arrangement. Although the song doesn’t really sound all that “interesting,” I think that Sayuri’s strong vocals make up for it. It’s one of the weaker points of the single but it’s still worth the listen.

Uh oh

May is looking like a sad month as far as things are turning out. -___________-”

Apparently, Ap tests are going to be around for the next two weeks plus, I have a term paper due this Wednesday. There’s my birthday/mother’s day party next weekend and I have my friend’s beach party on the week after. I know I promised that I will be posting reviews on the blog more often over the next few weeks but seems like there’s so much things outside of the internet world that’s not giving me time to review a release or two.

But I won’t be abandonning this blog! I have gone as far as posting 380+ posts and I’m not going to leave this site hanging! So let’s hope that there will be some time that opens up for me to peacefully listen and review some music…

EDIT:// I’ll be busy in June as well. Sure it’s already my last day of school on June 4 but I’m going on a family trip almost immediately after. I (sadly) don’t have my own laptop to bring on the trip with me so I might not be posting much in June either. (That blows away my chance to catch up on some reviews.)
